Dec 12 - 10day forecast

December 18 - 27, 2022

There are a few simple steps you can take to protect your pipes and prevent them from freezing:

  1. Insulate your pipes: Adding insulation to your pipes can help keep them from freezing, especially if they are located in unheated areas of your home such as crawl spaces, and attics.
  2. Keep your thermostat at a consistent temperature: Maintaining a consistent temperature in your home will help keep your pipes from freezing.
  3. KCWSC does not recommend trickling of water at the faucets:  Allowing a small stream of water to flow through your pipes can help prevent them from freezing. However, dripping faucets places an extra and unnecessary burden on our weak system in a time that is critical.  It also makes the identification of a true leak in the system difficult in the event of an emergency.
  4. Keep cabinet doors open: If your pipes are located in cabinets, keep the cabinet doors open to allow warm air to circulate around them.
  5. Disconnect and drain outdoor hoses: Disconnecting and draining your outdoor hoses can help prevent them from freezing and potentially bursting.

By following these simple precautions, you can help prevent your pipes from freezing and protect your home and wallet from costly repairs and water bill. If you do experience a frozen pipe, it's important to act quickly to thaw the pipe and prevent it from bursting. If you are unable to thaw the pipe yourself, it's important to contact a professional plumber for assistance.  Contact KCWSC at 254-675-1018 immediately if you do experience a burst pipe and subsequent leak.

KCWSC hope these tips will help you stay prepared for the winter weather and keep your pipes flowing smoothly. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact KCWSC through the web contact form (https://www.kcwsc.com/contact-us) or at 254-675-1018. Stay safe and warm!
